A poorly installed pump succumbed to some serious sediment issues after a local flooding in Ellon, Aberdeenshire. As a result, it stopped doing what it was meant to do – pump water out if the chamber filled up. The plastic fins of this particular model became jammed with some larger than normal grit, or stones in this case, causing it to cease rotating.
We stripped down the unit, cleaned it thoroughly, and could see no visible signs of damage. The unit was rebuilt and tested in clean water, and viola! it began pumping again.
A more suitable pump chamber (sump) was installed and the surrounding floor membrane was sealed to the chamber. The pump was then re-installed and tested once again (more than once actually – 4 x 25 litre drums of fresh water). The connections to and from the pump were also checked, and a new location for the electrical connection was fitted by a registered electrician.
